THE CRUX & ETHOS OF THE SADHANA ACADEMY
ABOUT MAKENZIE
Makenzie is a dedicated yoga practitioner and devoted teacher with over a decade of experience sharing the practice with joy and sincerity.
The Sādhanā Academy is a vision that has been quietly unfolding within her for several years.
Through contemplation, study and steady devotion that vision has now taken form.
The Sādhanā Academy is an online space offering on-demand access to yoga practices, rituals, and teachings.
Each class is thoughtfully composed to be inclusive, option-based and intelligently sequenced - weaving together meditation, pranayama (conscious breath-work) philosophical/physiological/anatomical knowledge. Classes steeped and rooted in the richness of the ancient yogic tradition.
She teaches through a trauma informed lens, and champions nervous system regulation in every single offering.
Makenzie’s own yoga teacher once shared that to teach is to commit to a life of study. This sentiment continues to guide her path.
Through her ongoing devotion to the practice, she has discovered ways to navigate and soften her own experience of suffering.
Her work is an offering - one that seeks to share these teachings and create a space that feels safe, supportive and deeply nourishing.
She believes that yoga is not something to be performative, competitive, forced or perfect.
There are sooo many non-physical qualities that are required in yoga - such as patience, humility, devotion, compassion, curiosity, presence and non-attachment to the aesthetics or outcomes of the practice.
Here we honour the individuality of all practitioners by guiding classes that are responsive to the ever-changing rhythms of the physical body, nervous system, mental state and nature of energy.
Makenzie’s hope is to make the timeless teachings of accessible in a way that is meaningful and practical.
This is a space where the many healing modalities of the yoga tradition can be explored, embodied, and integrated into daily life.
At the heart of her work is a reverence for the path of yoga.
YOGA IS NOT A NEW AGE FAD, TREND OR WORKOUT.
IT IS AN ANCIENT, SACRED TRADITION - ROOTED IN DEVOTION, QUIET CONTEMPLATION AND CONSCIOUS LIVING. IT IS IMPORTANT WE HONOUR THE PRACTICE WITH SINCERE REVERENCE, RESPECT AND GRATITUDE.
Student Testimonials
“I used to think yoga classes were just a great way to get some exercise in. To be honest, I never really understood the deep connection people often talked about, until I took my first class with Mak. Practicing with Mak is so much more than a yoga class. She has a way of helping you connect not only to your practice, but to yourself. There truly is no teacher quite like her. Mak will make you fall in love with yoga, but even more importantly, she’ll make you fall in love with your own practice”.

“Makenzie is a once-in-a-lifetime teacher and I have had the pleasure of being a student of hers for nearly a decade. She is more than knowledgeable — her yoga education runs so deep that ancient tradition seems to have become intrinsic to her very being. I would recommend her teachings to anybody looking to explore the true essence of Yoga”.

“Makenzie is such a soulful individual and she really throws herself into the depths of her vocation. She embodies spirituality — studying and incorporating the philosophies of yoga in her practices. She is truly present and supportive in practice and it helps me become more present and grounded in mine. Her classes are filled with people who are in all different levels of yoga, but she pays attention to us all equally. Truly grateful for her ever-calming presence, to practice with her is a privilege”.

THE SADHANA PRACTICES ARE OF SPIRITUAL NATURE
THE SADHANA PRACTICES ARE OF SPIRITUAL NATURE
1. My love for the tradition of yoga is unwavering. It is why life feels so meaningful.
2. I sincerely hope for others to experience this, and to find healing.
3. I have observed that in western spaces, yoga and its potency has been diluted - at times being reduced to a trend or even a workout. It’s important (dare I say fundamental) to honour its sacredness.
4. I would like to gather the knowledge and lived experience of a decade of teaching and hold it somewhere intentional and special.
5. I miss my students, and I long for the connection of shared practice.
6. To offer an accessible method of developing and sustaining a sincere & earnest yoga practice.
7. Yoga extends vastly beyond the physical modality (movement). It is philosophy, devotion, inquiry and a way to live more deeply rooted in being. it’s important to teach it with reverence and respect for what it truly is.
8. To create a safe, intimate, intentional space. Nothing is performative, or competitive.
9. I want to support students and teachers in going deeper - beyond the asanas (poses) into understanding and embodiment - restoring their curiosity, refining their wisdom.
10. Yoga is my vocation. The reasons why we follow the path of yoga are endless. To me, the reason of pinnacle importance is that it reduces the human experience of suffering - mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually. It changes the nature of our energy. It evokes positive changes internally & externally.
